Because Comcast is in business to make lots of money with the cheapest possible equipment. All of their analog channels look like crap on any big screen. This is nothing new. You want clear? Get Dish.
The previous poster that touts Monster Cable is a victim of sales hype. I defy him, or anyone else, to tell the difference between my HDMI cables and Monster’s. Not even the mighty Monster can tame the garbage that Comcast sends down their cheap system.
You should get Directv or Dish Network because they are 100% digital so even standard channels look better than any cable service.
set the display to “auto” and let the signal determine the output– most sporting events are broadcast in 720P or 1080i. The best overall picture for fast motion events is 720P, way too much aliasing used in 1080i and 1080P isn’t even broadcasted yet!
hook up a component video cable from your digital cable box to a component video input on your TV…. this should help the picture dramatically.
Thats great
Hook up an S-video cable to another input and check the differance. Satellite rules when it comes to quality and so do good cables like Monster!
There are only 20 HD channels on it because thats all comcast offers. The reason the other channels look horrible could be that, A). You bought an LCD, or B). you are not used to watching “regular” tv on a bigger screen. Just so you know, there are currently no broadcasts in HD that are 1080p, and there won’t be any for a long time. So, set your tv to 720p. The only thing that 1080p is good for is blu-ray and ps3(which has a blu-ray player built in). I am not trying to burst your bubble, and I know you probably spent alot of money on an LCD tv, but in my opinion, they just stink. DLP rear projection tvs are just a much nicer picture. The only thing is you can’t hang it on the wall. I have a 52” 1080p mitsubushi and the channels that are not HD, do not look terrible by any means, but they arent great either. That could be the fact that I am spoiled by the HD channels. Good news is, another year or so and most everything will be in HD. And again, not to burst your bubble, but Comcast will probably be the last service provider to offer all of the channels in HD…that is if they don’t go out of business due to Directv and Fios. I just read the other answers, I didn’t know that comcast didn’t offer all digital channels. I have Directv so that might be why my other channels look alright.
You should get Directv or Dish Network because they are 100% digital so even standard channels look better than any cable service. sd channels look wack on all hdtv if u use cable i own a 32 samsung had twc and it was wack now with directv all channels look better even sd chaneels
Ok do this. with the TV On and the Cable box OFF hit the menu button on the box remote,, just hit it once, don’t hold it at all. Set as follows: TV type: 16:9,, YPbPr output: 1080i,, 4:3 override: off. hit menu again to save. Drive your set with the YPbPr cable that came with your HD kit. That will do it,, wait and see.
